Crabtree & Auslander
Charles M. Auslander is a Board Certified Appellate Specialist and partner with the law firm of Crabtree Auslander & Tackenberg, LLC. He has been an appellate and trial support practitioner in the Florida state and federal courts since 1984, following a judicial clerkship at a Florida state appellate court.
Charles has also tried both civil and criminal cases and held two public leadership roles, first as DCF District Administrator for Miami-Dade/Monroe and later as the COO then President/CEO of The Children’s Trust of Miami-Dade County.
Two of his notable reported decisions include successes before the Supreme Court of Florida that clarified the scope of Florida’s contemporary arbitration code with respect to the enforcement of erroneous legal determinations by the arbitrator. Several years later he again prevailed before that court in a case that resulted in the modification of state law to adopt a revised forum non conveniens standard.
Charles’ current work focuses on civil appeals and litigation. He continues to brief and argue appeals for insureds in breach of contract cases and bad faith matters. His active appellate practice also stretches from federal and state statutory-interpretation cases to construction, general commercial and family law disputes.
He has also been involved as lead or supporting counsel in several rights-defining pro bono appeals, with particular emphasis on cases involving the rights of dependent children. Charles previously served as chair of both the General Practice and Family Law Practice Subcommittees of the Appellate Court Rules Committee of the Florida Bar.
